FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ'S)

What is the difference between 2D ultrasound, 3D ultrasound and 4D ultrasound?

2D is a typical black and white image used for diagnostics scans in your physicians office.  3D are the still images that will show you what your baby looks like, 4D is live motion video images of your baby - this is where you may see your baby yawn or make facial expressions. 3D images are captured in color photographs or saved to  a CD-Rom from where you can email or print them.  4D video is captured on a DVD.  Our facility chooses not to perform HD imaging as we believe the images are not realistic and make the baby look waxy, it is much more difficult to get good images, and typically requires more redos.

What is your facility like?

At First Glimpse Imaging we pride ourselves on being a warm, inviting, relaxing, comfortable, and spacious environment for you and your family.  Our viewing room is private, cozy and has a large screen for everyone to see your baby.

Is 3D and 4D ultrasound safe for me and my baby?

Yes!  3D and 4D ultrasound use the same frequency as your doctor uses in the normal 2D ultrasound.  Ultrasounds have been used for over 35 years and there have been no proven side effects from its proper use. We strictly adhere to the FDA’s standards.

When is the best time to have a 3d/4d ultrasound?

It depends on what you are wanting to see.  First Glimpse Imaging offers different packages for the different times of your pregnancy.   The earliest we recommend to determine the sex of your baby is 14 weeks.  Many pregnant mothers like coming in twice, early on, 14-25 weeks, when they can see the baby as a whole, and then again at 25-39 weeks to see a more detailed face. Between 27 and 32 weeks, your baby develops more fat and gets a more defined face. After 32 weeks, it becomes more and more difficult to obtain good pictures since the baby is running out of room. However all babies are different and the quality of the image depends upon baby's position, size, placenta positioning, and maternal tissues, so we cannot guarantee image quality for these factors that are beyond our control.

Do you accept insurance?

We do not accept insurance as this is an elective procedure.  We do accept cash, MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover.

How can I be sure to get the best possible 3D/4D pictures?

Most doctors recommend maintaining a healthy fluid intake, especially while you are pregnant. This will help to ensure your amniotic fluid is clear as well as full. There are many things out of the sonographer's control like the baby's position, the mother's size, skin type and build, amount of amniotic fluid, baby under placenta, cord or extremities in the face, etc.  So unfortunately there is no guarantees of the images.  But we do everything we can to try to reposition or wake the baby.  Although there are no guarantees of the images, if we are unable to get any pictures at all, out of courtesy, we do offer a complimentary redo Monday through Friday only, within 1 week of visit.  We strive for total satisfaction.  If there are any circumstances beyond our control that we are unable to do a complimentary redo, there are no refunds as we still have provided the service as best as we possibly can.

What should I do prior to the 3D/4D appointment?

Drink plenty of water, even days before the appointment, to ensure your amniotic fluid is clear. Avoid eating a heavy meal before the ultrasound.  About an hour before your 3D/4D ultrasound scan, try to drink a fruit juice or something with sugar so that your baby will be awake during your session (unless you are told not to by your physician).

How long is the 3D/4D ultrasound session?

Depending on the ultrasound package that you select and your baby's cooperation, your session will last between 20 and 45 minutes. However, plan on spending 30 minutes to an hour at our studio so that we can send you home with memories to last a life time. It is best to arrive a few minutes early to fill out some paperwork.  In order to have the time to provide the best experience to all of our customers, if you will be greater than 15 minutes late, we will need to reschedule your appointment.  With the exception of the Quick Glimpse Package, due to the short duration of this package, late arrivals will require a reschedule.

Are family and friends welcome to join?

Definitely yes! We encourage you to bring your friends and family to share this special moment with you. Children are also welcome and we provide them with plenty of toys and books to keep them entertained.

What type of ultrasound machine is used?
First Glimpse Imaging uses the best 3D/4D ultrasound machine, the General Electric Voluson 730 Expert, which is the only one that has a frame speed fast enough to allow you to see real-time movement.  This machine uses the latest technology providing the best possible pictures and real time clips.

Can you advise my due date or how much the baby weighs?

No.  First Glimpse Imaging is an elective service and does not replace any element of your prenatal care. We will not provide any measurements that determine baby weight or due date. We require that you are under prenatal care of a physician to use our service. If you have any question or concerns about your pregnancy we encourage you to consult your physician.
